Post Office Returned As Undeliverable What is my refund liability?
Summary: cmdeborr inquired about refund liabilities related to a package that was returned as undeliverable by the post office. disneyshopper and inceptions participated in the discussion, but their responses did not provide further information on resolving the refund liability issue.
I have had two different packages returned by the USPS as unable to deliver. I purchased the labels from ebay, so the info was correct.
One of the packages was from a listing with shipping included, so I reached out to the buyer, and offerred a refund minus the shipping, or the ability to pay for shipping, and I would re-send. I also asked that they check with ebay that their delivery info was correct. No response in more than 14 days. Am I liable to refund the differrence?
The second package came back after the buyer had paid for shipping. I reached out to the buyer, and asked that they check their info. Am I liable to refund the amount paid for the item itself, but not the shipping, since it was already used to ship or am I liable to refund the entire amount. No response in more than seven days.
Appreciate advice.

Mentor4 months agoHi @cmdeborr
You can refund the item price only on the purchase where the buyer paid shipping.
On the other item sold with "free" shipping, you cannot deduct the cost of the label as you sold it as "free." It can't be "free" and "not free" at the same time.
If either of the buyers would like you to resend, then relist the item, provide the new item # and remind them to correct their shipping address during checkout before completing payment.

OP4 months agoThanks. I have not received a response from either buyer.
I will refund both purchases and take the hit for the shipping on Free shipping listing.
Appreciate your time.

Mentor4 months agoIf you sent to the address supplied by ebay, you can refund item price only, if the buyer does not wish to repay to ship.
