Possibly suspicious buyer - looking for advice
Just sold an item for $3500 (awesome!) but buyer has been kind of sketchy... He offered me $3000 but then messaged me saying after shipping and taxes it would be more than he wants to spend and asked if we could do the transaction outside of eBay. I ignored the offer because I wasn't going to entertain the idea of going outside of eBay and after it expired, they chose to do the buy-it-now option.
My fear now is that I'll pack, insure, and ship the item only to have the buyer claim the shipping box was empty thus being out the money and item. I'm seeing a lot on here that eBay pretty much just sides with the buyer.
Any way to make sure I don't get scammed here or can I cancel the order on "bad vibes"?

Mentor2 years agoScammers rarely pay, especially $3,500, but I would still cancel the transaction as problem with buyer's address - it is a stretch, but if questioned, I would maintain that I do not ship to someone who has asked to take the item off of eBay. I think eBay would support you in your decision.
As long as he asked in an eBay message, you should be able to get any feedback removed if he leaves you a neg or neutral. I would take the neg over risking $3,500. You could get ahead of any feedback by reporting the buyer for this policy violation -

Put this buyer on your blocked list - anytime someone asks to take a transaction off of eBay, automatically add them to your blocked list.

I am curious - is this a new member? or one with lots of experience?
