Possible buyer ripoff advice
Hi, I'm a little upset so just reaching out to see what you all think. I had a seller buy an item I know was working (a Sega Dreamcast), in the amount of $250+. They received the item and now want to return it, claiming it's not working. This could be, but I smell something fishy. The buyer has a user rating of 3, their refund request very brief. I had the common sense to take a photograph of the underside of the item, one that clearly shows the console's unique barcode. So my question is, if I get back a Dreamcast where the numbers DON'T match and show this to eBay what can I expect? How much will I get back and who will be giving me this money? What if this buyer with a rating of 3 just closes their account and disappears? Thanks for any thoughts of encouragement you can provide.

Yes, it is possible that the Buyer will send you a different item on the return. Your Seller protection might permit you to only refund 50% of the purchase plus withhold the original shipping that the Buyer paid. This helps cuts your loss but is the maximum that eBay allows.
In this scenario you would also use the Report Buyer link on the transaction, use the pull-down menu on the left for that to find the Report Buyer link.
