Policy Regarding Cancelling an Order Because You Intended to Sell to Someone Else
Summary: dabat-750 is seeking advice about cancelling an order on eBay after unintentionally selling a binder of Pokémon cards to a non-preferred buyer due to an automated bid. They were unsure if their actions regarding bidding and communicating were permitted by eBay policies. krazzykats informed them that cancelling a winning bidder could result in a defect on their account and provided a link to eBay's policies on canceling bids.
Hi, I just wanted to ask this nuanced question since there are no options to cancel an order as a seller in regards to this rather niche reason. I put an auction out to sell a binder of Pokemon Cards with both Auction option and Best Offer, not knowing how the two interacted. A very nice potential buyer reached out and asked for my preferred price and I agreed to sell the cards to them at that price. Not knowing how the system worked on eBay we agreed they'd place a bid and I'd immediately cancel the listing to allow them to make the purchase. But the second her bid was place and slightly before I canceled the order, another bid came in and took the item. I'm guessing the bid was automated given the speed (which i assume is allowed) and I couldn't sell to the preffered Buyer. I don't know if any of this is allowed, the communicating, auto-bidding, the cancelling, so I'd like some help with this issue, I don't know if it's "All fair in love and bidding" or if I can cancel a purchase outside of the 3 allowed reasons. Thank you for your time.

And it's against eBay policies.
