Phone Number required on Shipping Address?
Hello all,
Hey, a question. I noticed my Shipping Address is required to have a phone number, which eBay shares with the Sellers when I buy something. I don't remember that being the case. Is this something new? Why? It seems to me to be a personal safety issue, and I'd rather not have it shared.
Before any trolls attack, I have bought and sold on eBay for decades, although I haven't sold any items for a few years. I have continued to buy here and there. Only with my most recent purchases have I noticed my phone number on the sellers' packing slips.

Mentor2 years agoI don't print packing slips so I don't know about that, but sellers can see it if they know where to look.

Mentor2 years agoIt has always been there. As a seller, I can go to one of my recent sales and click on order details and then click on view contact info and see the phone number. It isn't shown outright unless I make a few clicks.

Mentor2 years ago@docsi5. Sellers have had access to your phone number for many years. The reason is shipping companies like FedEx, UPS. DHL etc ask for it. And eBay doesn't allow sharing of contact info in messages.
If you make a purchase from an international seller is required on the customs forms.
Not sure if it's new that the phone number shows on packing slips as I haven't used them in many years to help keep my costs down.

OP2 years agoThank you for the answer, but I have to ask whether you're certain. I sold for quite a while on eBay and did not see buyers' phone numbers as part of the normal label-generation and shipping process. Maybe it was somewhere I never looked? Where would that have been? (I haven't sold for over a year, though.) And ebay can provide contact info through the barcode for the shippers without it being visible to the sellers; we do that at work.
I'm not trying to doubt you or start some argument, but I've encountered other folks who just answer without really knowing; they're often wrong. I'm concerned as I see it as a security risk with kids and elderly people who stay with me. Either way, thanks for trying to help me out.

Mentor2 years ago@docsi5. As my fellow Mentor said it's always been there. You have to look in the order details to see it.
And it evidently shows on packing slips.
