Personal info?
What are newer sellers 0-5 feedback maybe, trying to gain from listing, then selling, then cancelling a purchase virtually immediately? Are they just trying to obtain personal information?

·2 years agoDid you pay? If so were you refunded in full (any sales tax paid will be a separate refund from eBay rather than the seller and usually comes later)? What reason does eBay give for the cancellation?
How much information s/he got depends on if you paid.
The seller already got a "defect" when s/he cancelled the transaction (unless s/he lied to eBay to blame you, in which case we'd need details especially what eBay said the reason was in the cancellation notice). That is the primary tool eBay uses to weed out bad sellers, downgrading the selling status of those who get too many relative to their sales volume (as opposed to having to pay employees to actually investigate to see how likely it was that the seller had a legitimate reason to cancel vs. deliberate policy violations).
You may leave appropriate (calm, factual--if the seller said in a message to you that x was the reason say "seller said x. . ." so people don't think you are just jumping to conclusions) feedback to warn future buyers/bidders. If the usual links have vanished, go to anyone's Feedback Profile (doesn't matter who, click on the feedback score in parentheses behind the username) then scroll down to below the last comment on that page to find a "Leave feedback" link that doesn't vanish (it brings you to a list of items you can leave feedback for).
Theoretically you could sue the seller for breach of the contract of sale (for the difference between the auction price and what you ended up having to pay for a replacement), but that is almost never practical.

Mentor2 years agoHi @jimtruck0_2
New sellers have a LOT to learn and many don't take the time to do it before they start selling.
A common reason for this cancellation issue is because they have listed as a auction with a starting price that is lower than they will be happy with instead of starting the bidding at an acceptable price if only one bid is received. Another mistake is that they think adding a Buy It Now price to an auction is the same thing as a reserve price (which it isn't - that option disappears after the first bid).
If the seller is cancelling the order using the reason that the item is out of stock or damaged, he will earn a defect on his selling record. Too many of those, and he won't be selling for long. If he selected a different reason for the cancellation, you can report for misrepresentation here:

1. Select The seller has violated one of eBay’s policies and click Continue.
2. On the next page, enter the seller's ID and select Other.
3. In the comment section, write something similar to, "In order to avoid a defect, seller cancelled order stating that <I requested the cancellation -or- there was an issue with my address> ."
