Paying outside eBay means the Buyer will not have any protection for their purchase. Local Pick up items can be paid outside eBay and then Sellers simply use the Mark as shipped choice on the drop down menu on the sold item.
Paying outside eBay also means Sellers can avoid paying fees if the item is simply removed from the Active list. However, if there are messages on an item and then it is Ended eBay can interpret this as an item that is being sold off the site and charge the fees for it. Other restrictions or suspensions could result too.

Personal checks are not an acceptable method of payment on Ebay.
Since the payment was not made through Ebay's platform, the transaction is not complete according to Ebay.

OP1 year agoBut I see this in the help section - as such I advised the buyer that I would accept a personal check but would have to wait 4 days before shipping the item. There doesn't seem to be an obvious exclusion. The item is a collectable category (postcard).
Listings in some categories may offer the following additional payment options:

Mentor1 year agoCollectibles is not a category that allows for checks as a payment method. When you look at the listing it will show the acceptable payment methods and it would specifically need to list checks in order to be eBay legal.
