perfume turned out to be fake

What recourse do i have when perfume I bought in february and just opened is fake. Seller is gone from ebay. I thought ebay didn't sell fraudulent items.

You have waited too long for ebay to help you, but you can try to see if the payment processor will.

So I , or the person i give a gift to, has to open the item immediately to be sure that EBay isn't selling fraudulent items?

This is on Ebay, and when this seller got bad reviews and disappeared from the site, Ebay should have notified all of the recent buyers.

It is Ebay whom I trust, and now cannot.

eBay has a very buyer-centric 30 Day Money Back Guarantee, but yes, it is your responsibility to identify if there is a problem within that 30 days, just like with any retailer's return policy.
