PayPal Screwed Up and No Other Way to Buy this Item (too high value for a credit card)
Posting this here so that maybe a live person from the faceless eBay bureaucracy will see it and come to my rescue. I bought a rare coin for over $75,000. I tried to use PayPal to pay for it (with my bank account linked to it). But I am in some kind of security loop that makes it so that PayPal won't work (either my account or my wife's) and PayPal has no manual override that can fix it. Clearly, no credit card I have will have a credit limit that high, so credit cards are out. I thought I might be able to wire the money via an eBay wire. But the seller's listing agreement doesn't have the "enable wire payment" box on it, and this is not one of the eBay categories where wire transfers are routinely permitted (e.g. cars) and probably required. Any ideas? Don't suggest sending the wire directly to the seller. I don't want to do that because then I lose the eBay remedies if something about the sale or return goes wrong. Also, it might be banned from eBay.

OP4 months agoI did, but even double my current limit wouldn't exceed that $76,500 for the coin.

Mentor4 months agoIf you have more than one card, you may be able to split the payment between two cards, but if you are spending more than your credit card issuers are willing to extend to you in terms of a credit line, you should probably consider this purchase very carefully before pursuing it.

Contact your credit card issuer to see if you qualify for a higher credit card limit.
