paypal cannot be used for "make an offer" purchases
Paypal is my default method of payment.
The logic behind that is that ebay is literally worthless for protecting my purchases. I say that because I had a package sent to my home which never arrived with no special services attached than standard USPS tracking and ebay found in the seller's favor. Luckily I paid with paypal and made the same case and they refunded me with no questions asked.
I don't make a habit of making ebay or paypal claims. In the last 15 years with this account, I've made probably 5 disputes for very obvious things like packages not arriving, item destroyed in shipping, item clearly misrepresented and so on.
However recently, ebay has changed their policy so that if you make an offer on an item, and the seller accepts, you are automatically charged, which is fine, except the charge cannot go to paypal. It must be to a bank.
Unfortunately that means I'll have to stop making offers on ebay which is going to suck for me, ebay, and the sellers who might have wanted the offer. I simply don't trust ebay to protect me and the only way I'll buy through ebay is via paypal.
Have others run into this and made workarounds? It'd really suck to not make offers anymore but that's my plan unless I hear something better. Ebay has made it clear they will not change their policy.

OP2 years agoI'll try that again next time.
The last time I tried changing it to paypal, there was some dialogue telling me there were issues with paypal (as if my account weren't valid or something, yet I use paypal on ebay usually 1-2 times a week).
I mentioned this to the support person and all she could say was she didn't know why it worked that way, she had someone from that department on the other line and they told her I simply could no longer use PayPal for that.
I will definitely try it again but I guess I'm not expecting miracles.
Thank you for taking your time to reply to me.

Mentor2 years agoHi @doctor_beans
PayPal is the ONLY payment method I have linked to eBay … and is the one that was charged automatically when I made an offer recently.
I don’t know why you’re having trouble paying with PayPal … but I can assure you that there was no change in eBay’s policy about buyers using PayPal.

OP2 years agoThanks house*of*paws.
It sounds like my best bet might be to removing my banking information and leave ONLY paypal and then try that.
I would agree with you completely except I literally had a support person tell me it was no longer an option. They make mistakes too I guess.
Thank you again.

I believe you. 😊
We’re not overly impressed by CS reps … a main reason why we volunteer our time here. 😉

Mentor2 years agoI have seen screenshots uploaded by other mentors on this board, and they show that Paypal is a payment method that can be selected when making an Offer or placing a bid.

OP2 years agoThanks for your reply.
I wish someone would show me how to do the same. I talked with ebay support on the phone and they told me it was no longer an option.

Each time you make an offer you have the opportunity to change your payment method and shipping address just as you do at checkout.
Here's an example:
Use the highlighted change link to switch to another payment method.
