payment on hold
So I sold an item 5 days ago and ebay won't pay me for another 5 days. I've had an account here for 20 years, sold other items, never had a contested transaction.
What's the hold up other than ebay keeps my (and other I assume) money to earn interest on it that they have no right to. The $70 in fees wasn't enough?
Do they do this with everyone?

OP1 year agoI don't feel protected and I don't trust ebay. I did, but now apparently now they don't trust me and trust is reciprocal.
Imagine that I have overdraft protection, I'm not concerned about that.
I've been on ebay for 24 years, what's more established, maybe 50?
No need for additional replies, nobody will change my mind on this other than paying me.

"New or infrequent sellers will experience transaction holds while learning best selling practices. This helps sellers become established and build a strong selling history on eBay. New sellers typically experience holds for up to 30 days, although sometimes it may be longer"
The fact that you have been an Ebay member does not mean that you will not be subject to the payment holds since you are an infrequent seller.

Mentor1 year agoIt is for your protection. 30 days is not an arbitrary number--it is the time period that a buyer can open a return case. Imagine the funds were released to your checking account and you spent them. Then on day 29 the buyer opens a return. The funds would be placed on hold, which is SOP. The funds aren't on hold, but gone. eBay would then remove the money from your checking account. This could overdraw your account. It is much better to have the funds held all along. Yes, they will be released and no, this isn't shady. Once you are more established, this will no longer happen.

Your payment is on hold because according to your profile, you have not sold anything in over a year. eBay places a 21-30 day hold on all new/returning seller's first few payments. Even though the payment status shows Pending, the funds are there and you can use the funds specified for shipping to purchase shipping labels. If you buy labels outside of ebay make sure to upload the tracking number manually. Once tracking shows delivered, your funds will be released within a few days. Read the info in the link below.

OP1 year agoThanks for the answer. I just spoke with someone on the phone from ebay and they said it was for my protection. That's a funny way of saying ebay does not trust me to actually send the item in question to the buyer.
24 years with ebay, 100% positive feedback, never a fraudulent transaction and ebay holds the money the seller gave them to give to me at no additional compensation to me.
At this point I don't trust ebay is going to release any funds to me. I don't have the items any more and I have no payment for them either.
This is shady AF.
