Question

I have always done payments through PayPal. I have not done much selling, but I just sold one item. Now I am getting a message requiring a bank account and routing number in order to receive payment. If I ignore it, can my payment just be credited to a future purchase?

You cannot sell on Ebay unless you have a bank account on file in order for Ebay to send your payouts to the bank account. You cannot ignore it. If you sold an item, and you do not have a bank account on file, eventually Ebay will turn your money over to your state.
