Payment Holds for no reason
Summary: br_43264 shared their frustrating experience as a new seller on eBay, where a watch they sold was flagged for fraudulent activity shortly after being shipped. Despite providing documentation, eBay held the payment for 10 days and is currently holding another payment for 35 days. evry1nositswindy explained that new and returning sellers typically face mandatory holds until they have more successful transactions. lady_madonna provided a link for further reading on eBay's payout holds policy.
Okay, I know I’m not the only one who finds these holds absolutely insane. My experience as a “seller” on eBay has been nothing short of a nightmare. My first sell, a Breitling Endurance timepiece, was a disaster from the minute I sent it in the mail. Maybe 3-4 hrs after I shipped the watch, I get a notification from eBay saying the post was flagged for fraudulent activity. I had all of the receipts and authentication documents in the post, so i was confused to say the least. Anyways, it turns out their AI system is the one who flagged it. I then underwent a 3-4 day process of providing more documentation to prove my legitimacy than what was required to get my passport. They held that payment for 10 days after delivery while they verified all of the information I provided. Now I’m going through the process again but the hold is set to clear 35 days after delivery. This item is maybe 1/8th of the cost, it was factory sealed in its original box and I always deliver promptly to ensure everyone is happy with products/payments in hand. Why do they do this and are the solutions that can help me receive my money faster, now?

OP1 month agoI understand that. What created my confusion/frustration is my lack of understanding as to why they chose to extend the length of the hold on my second sell. The first hold was less than half of the length of the hold im currently undergoing. I should’ve read the terms and conditions better. However, in both instances it said I would be able to receive payment 2-3 days after delivery. And in both instances the date changed shortly after shipping to buyer. I’m sure it’s my fault, but something about it all doesn’t sit right with me. Anyways, I appreciate the feedback even if it wasn’t what I wanted to hear lol. I will no longer be using the platform as it’s pretty evident it stresses me the heck out. Have a great day folks!

Mentor1 month agoALL new and returning sellers have this mandatory hold on funds. There is no quick fix for this until you have more successful sales under your belt.
