    Payment Dispute - 1 Hour After Cancel Request

    Buyer places an order, then asks to cancel the order.

    1 hour later, files a payment dispute

    I would have definitely cancelled the order given the time to see the cancellation request.

    Now my question is how do I proceed to make sure I DO NOT get any strike on my account, do I challenge or just accept the dispute?

    Does accepting the dispute give me a strike since it makes it sound as though I was at fault?

    @epicnova.  This is an unusual situation.

    I'm going to tag a fellow Mentor and see how she recommends handling this.

    This is unusual indeed.  I have never known a credit card to allow for a dispute to be filed when there is NO transaction yet.  In the timeline that @epicnova is describing, there would NOT be a charge on the credit card yet.  There would be a Pending charge, which is NOT affecting the account balance at all and most credit card companies would not allow a dispute to be filed on a Pending charge.  So first off that is beyond weird.

    The policy page that @lady_madonna provided is a good resource but doesn't cover something like this.  It is simply ODD.

    @epicnova  IDK what this credit card company is doing.  I would suggest just to accept it and allow the money to be fully refunded to the buyer.  I'm sorry they just had no patience to wait a moment to allow you to get your job done.  It is pretty ridiculous.  But sometimes we just have to deal with the hand dealt.  You and your account should be just fine.

    I had messaged the buyer prior to posting here and they said they didn't file a chargeback but tried to through Paypal. So I guess when they tried through Paypal that is when eBay tagged this sale.

    I did speak with eBay support about this issue and they say accepting will not give me a strike on my account but still not so sure but a this point seems the only option.

    Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    @epicnova

    The buyer had to of filed it.  They may have now changed their mind, but they did file the dispute.  There is no other way for it to happen.  However we all make mistakes.  Ebay did Not "tag" this sale.  The buyer accidentally opened a dispute with their credit card company, so you MUST deal with that.

    Accepting the credit card dispute will NOT cause you any damage to the health of your selling account.  NOT accepting it however could end up costing you an extra $20 and Ebay won't refund your FVFs when they force the refund to the buyer.

    I hope you will consider following my advice above.  It is the easiest and cleanest way out of the issue.
