Paying for Postage
So I’m a bit confused. I sold an item for $70 with the buyer paying the cost of shipping ($19.00) So initially it said on my account I was paid $89.00 , which I understood as the extra ( $19.00) was to pay the shipping . So I went to USPO & used the the scan I was sent from eBay for USPO to print label & shipped it off . But now I’m seeing in my account my payout is $56.00 for this item ?!?! I sold it for $70 ?!?! I’m totally confused as to why I’m only receiving $56.00 ?

eBay takes a fee when you sell an item - it is a % of the total from the buyer. Mot items are 13.6% plus $.40.
So if the total with tax was around $95, then the fees would be around $14. $70 - $14 = $56. (The shipping goes in and out.)
You can see the actual calculation in your payment account - just click on the buyer’s payment.

OP8 months agoOk thank you for explaining about the fees . Is there anyway to avoid those fees ? It’s my first sale so I guess I thought they only charged fees to those with online stores. So next sale is there a way to calculate the fee & then I would just up the price of the item I’m selling? Because for this first item after eBay fee I’m getting a lot less then I planned on !!!!

There is no way to avoid the fees. That is how eBay makes money and pays for the services they give us.
The fee on most items is 13.6% of the total from the buyer, plus $.40. So you can’t calculate an exact amount, but you can come close once you know the range of the shipping cost. The average sales tax is around 8%.
You can see all of the potential fees here - other fees are for optional upgrades, so don’t use things like a bold title or a subtitle. https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4822

No. eBay collects a fee for everything and anything that is sold on their site.
You can see eBay's entire fee structure in the link provided by "wooden_flower."
Scroll on down to the paragraphs entitled Final Value Fees. There you will see a chart that lays out the Final Value Fee (FVF) percentage, which varies depending on the categories of items that can be sold on eBay.
Those percentages range from 3% for selected business and industrial items (like a commercial printing press or a food truck), to 6.7% for guitars and basses, up to 15.3% for books. Most categories, including designer Barbie Dolls, carry a 13.6% FVF.
As part of the FVF structure, eBay also retains a per-order fee of 40 cents when the total paid by the buyer is $10.01 and more. If the total paid by the buyer is $10.00 or less, the per-order fee is only 30 cents.
It seems that the trickiest part for new eBay sellers to understand is this:
The FVF percentage is applied to the total amount paid by the buyers.
The total amount paid by the buyer includes the item price, plus the shipping price shown in the listing, and usually some sales taxes. (Only five of the 50 United States do not charge sales taxes.)
