Pay for a closed account to finalize and avoid collections
I have closed down my brother-in-law‘s page. He passed away on Thanksgiving 2025. We continue to get threats of needing to pay a final 5995 to eBay to avoid collections. I would like to do so on his behalf, but unfortunately I do not have access to his account and I want this to stop and have no idea how to contact eBay to take care of. this is everything is a chat or an AI bot

That could be a store subscription that didn't get canceled.
I asked eBay community staff and they advised contacting customer service again to get the remaining amount removed.
I recommend social media.

Then Type PAYOUT In the chat bot box on the lower right.
Then AGENT after the bot responds. You might have to repeat those steps.

OP5 months agoYes he passed away on Thanksgiving of 2025 and we reported it immediately and to close out the account they still want us to pay the 5995 fee to close it out of which I’d be happy to do and end this situation, but there’s no way to get a hold of anybody in the account is locked. I guess I shouldn’t worry if they send it to collections because he is passed away, but we don’t want to leave loose ends if it can’t be closed with the fee we would like to do so but not being able to reach anyone is hard to do so

Mentor5 months ago@adcrossroads. Talk to an attorney about your responsibility for the fees. You may not have any. You can usually get a free consult.
I am just not sure why you have such a large amount of fees if you provided the death certificate right away.
It sounds like items sold before the account was closed. The way eBay refunds work is the seller " floats" the refund and once the refund reaches the buyers account the buyers original payment is released to the seller.
I bet this is a refund "float " unless he sold some very expensive items.

If the lower amount it could be a store subscription. Do you have the legal position with his Estate to complete the transaction for the estate?
