Pay commitment on auctions.
I had stoppped selling on auctions because of the amount of people that didn’t go through with their obligation when it came time to pay for an item so I preferred to sell “buy nowâ€.I had recently noticed that when I was bidding on items as a buyer instead of a seller, eBay would stop me and ask me for my payment information prior to letting bid which I thought was great and would drastically cut down on competitors bidding on an item or people that really had no intentions of buying for what ever reason. I decided to try to sell using auctions again and my first auction back I have run into the same situation again in which I contact the buyer just to get ignored and wait the set amount of time to relist the item. I am not sure why as a buyer I was forced to give my purchase info before bidding but as a seller my potential customers aren’t being held to the same security measures? Any other seller notice this?

·1 year agoeBay had been "experimenting" with requiring pre-authorization of payment for Best Offers for over a year and a half (started prior to Halloween 2021), adding more and more users into the test group required to do so (sellers can opt their listings out of it; buyers cannot opt out). Too many users were making offers and then not paying when it was accepted, and too many of those were scammers who would try to get the seller to text or email them to get their number/email address to send fake payment messages to.
In Fall 2023 they made it permanent and all buyers are now required to pre-authorize automatic payment for Best Offers they make on listings for sellers who have not opted out of the program.
They started trying it out on auction bids (with a smaller group of buyers that is growing) in Spring or early Summer 2023 and that is ongoing with more and more auctions and bidders becoming subject to it. BUT not all are yet.
