Package not delivered sent via Media Mail
I sold a book for $7 and sent it via Media Mail, I did not purchase the additional liability insurance. The buyer never received the item, even though it shows it was delivered. I believe USPS has an issue. He is now asking me to file a claim since it is lost. I tried to file a claim with USPS, but they said it's not covered. I am not sure how I should move forward. I have been a seller for over 10 years, and this is the first time this has happened. I would like some guidance.

Mentor3 weeks agoIf it had tracking and it was marked delivered you can not get anything from USPS. And you did pay for USPS, as buyer does not buy the actual postage, you do when you created the label.
Buyer, or you can call USPS with the tracking number and confirm where it actually got delivered. This is the best thing you can do now to find out what happened to it.

Mentor3 weeks agoEven though you didn't insure it, did you add tracking? If so and tracking shows it delivered you're off the hook. Just make sure you reply to any ebay request to confirm the tracking.

OP3 weeks agoHe opened an INR case, and it's closed and in my favor. But he is still asking me to file a claim since I shipped the item. This was his message.
You can still get covered by USPS if it's lost. I unfortunately can't get it from USPS since I didn't pay for their services.
Thanks for your help. I want to handle this as responsibly as possible.

Mentor3 weeks agoTell buyer:
If tracking shows it was delivered to your address, but wasn't, call or visit the carrier with the tracking number and insist they track down where the package was actually left, which they can do with scans and GPS.
If delivered to a wrong address they will try to retrieve it. Also watch the tracking for a scan it got turned in or returned to the seller.
If it shows it was delivered to your address and is now stolen or missing, it is a matter for a local police report and your insurance company. Neither ebay or the seller can help further.

OP3 weeks agoSo I am not liable even though I didn't buy the additional coverage?

No you are NOT liable if ....
If eBay shows the package was delivered and you have confirmation of that via eBay tracking take a screen shot of the eBay tracking that shows it WAS delivered and attach the screen shot to a message to the Buyer. Advise them that they will need to take that tracking number to their local Post Office and ask them WHERE they delivered the package.
