Overcharged sales tax
I live in pa. Where the sales tax on an item is based on the purchase price of not the retail price, so when a $400 item is on sale for $300 I should only pay sales tax on $300. But it doesn’t seem to be the case with EBay, they tax the $400 retail price. I have talked to 3 different customer service representatives and even more of their dumb AI bots and have got no results not even a negative call back.Walmart went through this tax over charge a few years ago and it cost them millions in a settlement. I just am not sure what I should do.Anyone have any idea which way to go?

·2 years agoPlease consider asking the seller to send you a feedback revision form. Negatively affecting their account over something that didn’t have anything to do with them and is out of their control is really unfair.

In PA whether a coupon reduces the "price" for sales tax calculation seems to turn on how the coupon is described on the invoice/receipt. https://www.salestaxinstitute.com/resources/pennsylvania-high-court-rules-on-application-of-coupons-in-sales-tax-calculations

eBay assesses tax based on the purchase price of the item. Retail price doesn’t enter into the picture at all.
[PA may be one of those states that taxes shipping cost along with the item price.]

I checked it out, and Pennsylvania is indeed one of the states that taxes shipping cost in addition to the item price. You were NOT overcharged ... but merely misinformed about PA's tax policies.
I hope you will find a way to remove the negative feedback you left the seller for something they had absolutely nothing to do with. [Trashing a seller's reputation because you're mad at eBay really isn't fair ... and you likely will find other sellers refusing to sell to you when they read what kind of feedback you've left for your previous sellers. That is the only way that sellers are able to evaluate buyers, since buyers can only receive positive feedback.]
