I have a 2 oz first class envelope that I listed and offered free shipping on, and they kicked it up to ground advantage.
First class shipping is postage stamps. If the envelope qualifies then you use stamps or ask the Post Office if it qualifies for non machinable. Either way it won't have tracking unless you use ground advantage.
From my perspective as a seller, this is what is frustrating.
eBay accepted my listing using USPS First Class Large Envelope at $1.90. My shipment was well within the weight limits, weighed about 4 ounces, and was packaged as a regular envelope less than an inch thick. The listing passed eBay's system and the buyer completed the purchase based on that setup.
After the sale, when I went to print the label, eBay unilaterally changed the shipment to Ground Advantage, more than tripling the cost, with no warning and no opportunity to revise the listing or charge the buyer the difference.
That feels like a bait-and-switch. If a shipping method is not actually acceptable, it should not be allowed at listing time. Sellers should not be told "this qualifies" up front and then be forced into a more expensive service after the sale, entirely at the seller's expense.
I am not disputing USPS rules. I am upset that eBay approves listings it later refuses to honor. That is a platform problem, not a seller mistake.

Mentor8 months ago@ogaugetrainstuff. Did you pay more than expected when buying the shipping label or did the carrier add a surcharge and bill you?
Keep in mind that the USPS shipping costs just went up on the 18th.

I understand how this can be confusing.
eBay allows sellers to offer many shipping methods that the labels cannot be purchased for through the site.
You can still ship first class as long as the post office says the item qualifies. You just won't have tracking.
You can only purchased tracked shipping on eBay.
