Outstanding fees after selling

Only today did I find out that I owe eBay money after I tried to sell a monitor 2 years ago. I received the funds from the buyer, and got the shipping label, though after the item allegedly arrived damaged, it was sent back to me which led to this happening to me on eBay. Once the item was returned to me, all of the funds were gone and I was put into the negatives, never earning any money from it. What I am confused about is why I have to pay this amount of money if I never even received any of the money nor damage the item. Essentially leaving me with a broken item that I cannot fix and losing money.

Mentor1 month agoYou need to package sold items so they do not get damaged. If a buyer files a returns request, you need to have them send photos of the damaged item, the outer packaging, the inner packaging, the shipping label. You then fully refund the buyer from your funds, and ebay will reimburse you. It sounds like you did not fully refund the buyer, so there are outstanding fees. Onceyou refundthe buyer, then you file an insurance claim with the carrier, uploading all of the photos that were sent to you. It is then up to the carrier to accept the claim or not.

I suggest selecting a credit card for fees and reimbursements (so your checking account doesn't get overdrawn).

OP1 month agoI see, i only had a checking account added for payouts as I didn't know about fees. Also given that this was two years ago, is a insurance claim still able to be created?

OP1 month agoFrom what I've seen the funds were in my account and didn't go to me as I couldn't deposit them anyways. Because of this I didn't do anything with it and let them stay there for eBay to give back to the buyer. Although I do recall moving the funds to refund the buyer, however It still resulted in my balance going into the negatives.
