outrageous shipping cost
I sold an item that I shipped today, under the impression that I was only paying $52 for shipping. However, after reviewing what my proceeds from the sale would be, I found that the shipping charges are now show as $110. This would make the sale a complete loss to me, because I am actually paying money from out of my pocket to make this sale. How can i cancel the sale and get my item back?

You cannot cancel the sale. How big was the box for the $ 145.00 Preamp and what was the weight? I see it was set for FedEx and they are notorious for over charging BUT we also see a lot of mistakes by New Sellers in the area of shipping. If they don't have enough weight or the dimensions of the box the item will actually ship in are too small then they have issues with the shipping costs.
I am in the same shipping zone as you and see an $ 18.33 charge ... so if a Buyer paid $ 52 they are in a shipping zone further away.

OP1 week agoHi Mr. Lincoln, Thank you for your quick response and for helping out with the matter. The item that i shipped measures: 15 inches X 23 inches X 6 inches. It weighs roughly 11 pounds. It shipped to California, so I understand that the charges would be higher. Unfortunately, after I shipped it and checked for my proceeds on eBay; the statement showed that it didnt even ship for $52, but a total of $110 was charged for shipping, which was deducted out of my proceeds. So for an item that sold for $145, I end up getting only $28. This is a great loss which means not only did i give the item for free, but that i had to pay to sell it and end up at a huge loss. Please advise what you would do to recover either the item or the money that it sold for; minus reasonable shipping and handling charges. Thank you. Dave

If you shipped the item there is nothing you can do other than try disputing the charge with FedEx. eBay is not involved. Those dimensions equal 2,070 Cubic inches and carriers start their Volume or Dimensional rates above one cubic foot which is 1,728 cubic inches. For your package going from PA to CA it would be about $ 60-$ 63 Retail via USPS Ground Advantage plus about $ 3-$4 for additional insurance over $ 100. Years ago FedEx took me across charging me after the fact double what my customers paid. I stopped using them and have never looked back.
