Outrageous fee calculation
Calculating the final fees including shipping and tax is outrageous. In the example above the final fee is 40% of the item. What possible justification can you use for charging a fee on shipping and sales tax. I agreed to 13.6% not 40%.

The shipping being a much more than the price of the item is what makes this seems so frustrating. You have to take into account the fees will be based on the full amount and price the item accordingly.

When you read the Fee Details section -- and put some effort into understanding it --
you will see that your conclusion that eBay charged you a 40% fee is just plain wrong.
Summary: eBay's Final Value Fee has two parts: the first is a percentage of the total paid by the buyer, and the second is a fixed fee charged "per-order". That second part is either $0.30 or $0.40, depending on whether the total transaction is under or over $10.00/$10.01.
Look at that line in the Fee Details that says "Fees based on" which has the letter i inside a circle.
Read to the right, and you will see the dollar amount -- $279.10 -- which is the total amount paid by your buyer.
That line tells you that eBay will calculate their fee -- the 13.6% that you admit is the percentage that you agreed to -- on $279.10.
And surely enough, in the very next line, eBay shows the math of the variable percentage portion of their Final Value Fee (FVF): $279.10 x .136 (13.6%) = $37.96.
Following that section, you will see that eBay retained $0.40 (forty cents) as the fixed, per-order, fee because your buyer paid more than $10.01 in this transaction.
Successful eBay sellers accept the way eBay calculates their FVFs.
Many eBay sellers take the position that their buyers pay their FVFs.
