Opened a return and seller is threatening my life
I started a return for an item and the seller is threatening my life if I don't cancel the return. They started texting and calling me too. I reported them several days ago and nothing has happened. I have no intention of dealing with this lunatic any more. Need ebay to issue a refund, they can just look at his messages and see dozens of threats.

You have been given some good advice already in how to deal with this through ebay, but have you considered contacting the seller's police dept. and reporting the threats to them?
Usually those threats are just empty ones, Years ago it happened to me and I replied I was hiring the Norris-Segal, protection agency to come after them, and they stopped. eBay processed the refund.

Be ready to Escalate the return request just as soon as possible by Asking eBay to step in:
> Ask eBay to step in
> Check the status of your request

OP8 months agoI am hoping to escalate but the seller is also threatening to accept the return at the last second but I don't intend to mail anything back to this lunatic after he threatened me and my family. Seller went insane, started talking about being in a cult and stuff. So if they accept the return what do I do? Credit card chargeback at that point?

I am very sorry that this is happening to you. Since you already reported the seller, do you want to try to Contact eBay Customer Service? If so, here are some ways to do it. Good luck:
Contacting eBay Customer Service:
If you require assistance from eBay, click on this > eBay Customer Service help page link.
eBay Customer Service help on Social Media:
> eBay for Sellers: Instagram
Do Not Post Your Account Information Publicly. Use the private messaging options. You'll need to provide your user ID, your name, your address, and the registered email address attached to your account. Also, be sure to give them plenty of details.
The eBay Social Media Agents usually respond in a day or two and may research the situation better than a "chat session" agent.
Using eBay Help Pages:
The ? icon:
When you see the ? icon on an eBay page, you can click on it to access eBay Customer Service, Report content, Send feedback, or to Report a technical problem:
