Non Authorized seller return
I have encountered a problem with a buyer. I am a personal, infrequent seller so hoping someone who does this a lot can offer advice. I sold the buyer a vintage golf bag for $200. All pertinent details about size and style of the golf bag were clearly spelled out in the listing, i.e. the item was "as described". The item was sold with “seller DOES NOT accept returns†stipulation. I was responsive to any inquiry from the buyer. To get a suitable box for the golf bag, I went to the pro shop at my golf club. The golf professional there helped me to suitably package and ship the item, and they charged me for the service. Since the shipping account of golf club was used, their return address was on the shipping label. After receipt of the bag, the buyer’s son apparently did not like the bag, so the buyer is claiming the bag is “not suitable for his 2 handicap son who is a golfer†even though he agrees it is as described and a nice bag. The buyer has called the golf club repeatedly requesting and insisting that they provide him with a different style golf bag. The buyer was notified by me and the golf professional that the golf club is NOT the seller, nor do they any part in this transaction other than providing shipping. Nevertheless, the buyer, without any authorization from me (the seller), shipped the bag directly back to the golf club. I do not feel that the buyer is entitled to a refund from me, since I have fulfilled my responsibilities as an Ebay seller. I also want to protect my Ebay rating as a trusted seller. I also need to make sure the buyer STOPS calling my golf club pro shop about this transaction! Will Ebay back me as the seller, or since he, on his own, shipped the bag back, will I have to refund his money and/or purchase price and shipping?

eBay might back you for refusing to refund a buyer who hasn’t filed a return request … but the buyer’s credit card company probably won’t, AND you’ll be charged an extra $20 for their work. You may also forfeit your eBay fees.
This buyer isn’t likely to take no for an answer. I’m really sorry this happened.
BTW, you probably should have had the ‘Shipped from’ address on the package that you put in your Account for this purpose. eBay has no way of controlling the buyer from contacting whoever they want. Sorry.

·1 year agoIf the buyer did not open a case on eBay and receive a label from you, then no, eBay will not force you to refund them anything. Anything else involved like getting them to stop calling the golf shop is beyond the scope of eBay's service, but you do not have to worry about a case at this point. If they open a case for return, they will have nothing to return, but you can come back here for advice in that eventuality.

OP1 year agoThank you so much for the info. I sent a help request to ebay, too. Have not received a response, but will certainly come back here for more advice, if needed.
