No seller protection
Summary: 08kx450f expressed frustration after eBay allowed a return on an electrical item they sold, despite evidence that the buyer had received the correct product. They felt let down by eBay's seller protection, as they were charged fees and shipping costs. eastlaneave and lady_madonna provided advice and explanations on eBay's policies, highlighting that sellers must often accept returns. They suggested following return procedures and provided resources for handling future requests.
I sold a wiring harness and the buyer claimed I sent him the wrong item. However, in his return request, he sent a picture holding the tag on the item which is the tag I am holding in a picture in my listing. (I don't accept returns on electrical items). I contacted eBay immediately via chat and was assured I would be protected by seller protection. Three days later I get notified they are allowing a return. I call this time. I get reassured again. During this time I see no tracking or info stating the buyer sent the item. The item shows up and ebay immediately refunds his money, plus shipping and kept all my seller fees!! I appeal. Needless to say it was declined. So what do we get protected against? Obviously not these situations!

I'm sorry that happened.
All sellers accept returns when the buyer says the item is not as described.
What you can do is accept the return, and issue a return label
If you are a top rated seller, when the item is returned, you can deduct up to 50% of the return for any damage.
Once the item is returned, you should issue the refund. That way you get your seller fees back and you don't get a defect.
I know it is a frustrating policy.

OP2 weeks ago(He said I sent the wrong item) That's fine and dandy, but when there is visual proof the buyer got the exact part in the listing and lied about the return reason, I shouldn't have to pay fees or shipping either way if I am forced to accept the return. I'm not top rated because I can't offer 1 day shipping because I have a full time job.

Mentor2 weeks agoUnfortunately for you, Ebay has no way of physically viewing what you sent and what the buyer received.
The buyer was able to file the Return Request since they chose a reason covered by the Ebay Money Back Guarantee.
Since you did not immediately cooperate with the return request, Ebay stepped in to help the buyer with the refund and charged you for the return shipping and fees.
You might need to review this about how sellers handle return requests: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/managing-returns-refunds/handle-return-request-seller?id=4115

OP2 weeks agoYes, ebay did have a way.... because the buyer sent a picture of him holding the tag on the item in the original return request. The same tag that was pictured in my listing! So tell me how that is not 100% proof that he got the correct item? This is why I don't understand. I get normally they don't have proof, but he included proof he had the correct item.
