New USPS rate for rural USA

USPS just announced that packages under 1 LB shipped to a remote rural zipcode or Alaska and Hawaii will be a flat $15.95.
The list of remote zipcodes changes or is updated regularly so there is no way to know in advance until you go to print out the label. I have always offered flat rate shipping so that I can pass on the EBay discount and I am not in it to make money off of shipping. However, if I offer a flat rate of say $6.00 and the buyer lives in a remote zipcode then I'd have to eat the $9.95 extra.
Other than offer "calculated price" in shipping is there a way to still offer a flat rate but not be subject to increase when I go to ship?

MentorJul 16, 2026 at 2:39 PM@aprilia998 You can pass on the eBay discount when using buyer pays calculated shipping if you choose to do so. I strongly recommend calculated shipping for all items now do to the recent changes. Between this change and the higher rate for packages under 2.1 pounds it's really the only way a seller can hope to make any money without losing it all on shipping.
