Items can sell immediately after they appear in search or they may never sell at all. The #1 factor is demand. Are there any buyers out there who want the item you're selling? How about the price? What are other sellers selling the same item for? What is the condition of the item? Are the keywords the buyer will use to search for the item in the listing's title so buyers can find it when they search? Is the description complete? What is the quality of the photos? How much experience does the seller have? These are some of the factors.
I would suggest that before you try to sell anything, you buy a few things so you understand how eBay works from a buyer's perspective and to receive some feedback points. Many buyers will not buy from sellers with no experience. In the meantime, read all the information in the Help topics (link at the top of most pages) regarding selling so that you know what you're doing. Start here:
