New Seller: Seeking advice on selling Automotive Spare Parts from Malaysia
Hi everyone,
I am a new seller and I am planning to start selling Automotive Spare Parts on eBay. Before I list my first item, I would love to get some advice from the experienced sellers here.
A few things I am curious about:
Shipping: For those selling car parts internationally, what is the most reliable shipping method you would recommend for bulky items?
Compatibility: How do you manage the Compatibility List or Fitment effectively to avoid returns?
Restrictions: Are there any specific parts that are often flagged or restricted that I should stay away from as a beginner?
I really want to do this right from the start and provide a good experience for my buyers. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Mentor4 months agoI don't sell automotive parts, but I will say that I would NOT purchase automotive parts from anywhere except my local stores. Too many questions regarding quality control, compatibility, returns. Since you are in Malaysia, I suggest selling something that you can only obtain from your country that international buyers might be interested in. Are there figurines, art work, crafts, etc that are unique to your area?

I’m actually considering shifting my focus to Malaysian crafts or collectibles since they are more unique to our region. Since you have a buyer's perspective, what kind of 'Made in Malaysia' items do you think would actually appeal to international collectors? Is there a specific niche you feel is lacking supply but has high interest?

I have no idea about what types of items would be collectible that are available in Malaysia. That is why I listed generic items such as figurines, crafts, etc. How about tapestry and clothing items as well?

Thanks for the insights! From what I've seen, there is definitely a niche for specific automotive collectibles and parts. For example, rare 'JDM' (Japanese Domestic Market) parts are quite abundant here and highly sought after by collectors in the US and Europe because we share similar car models.
As for crafts and clothing, 'Batik' prints and traditional hand-woven fabrics like 'Songket' have potential as high-end tapestry or fashion pieces. Also, vintage collectibles from the 70s-80s era (like old toys or enamel signs) have a unique 'Malaysiana' appeal that international collectors find exotic.
I'm currently focusing on the automotive niche, but I'm definitely looking into how to present these traditional items to the global market. Thanks again for the suggestions!
