New Seller Questions
Summary: felixfindsco, a new eBay seller, is seeking advice on whether QR codes are used by eBay for payments or order verification, as they have received suspicious messages from buyers. They suspect it might be a scam and are looking for confirmation and guidance to ensure their account's safety.
Hi everyone — I’m a brand‑new seller on eBay and could really use some advice from people who’ve been around longer.
I’ve listed five items over the last couple of days, and three different “buyers” have messaged me with the exact same pattern:
They ask, “Is this still available?”
As soon as I say yes, they send a screenshot of a QR code that looks like it has eBay branding.
They tell me I must scan it to “complete the order” or “verify the transaction,” and that eBay requires it.
My gut says this is a scam — it feels off, and it doesn’t match anything I’ve read about how eBay works. But since I’m new, I wanted to double‑check in case there’s some seller setup step I’m missing.
Can anyone confirm whether eBay ever uses QR codes for payments, verification, or order completion? And is this a known scam targeting new sellers?
Any guidance would be really appreciated. I want to make sure I’m handling this correctly and keeping my account safe.
Thanks in advance!
