New buyer returned an item I did not send wants a refund and now is no longer a user.
A new buyer opened a case against me stating I sent the wrong item, and had a photo of a black plastic thing in her hand I did not recognize. I sent her a pizza oven in a very large box. I messaged her tracking shows it could not be delivered via FedEx in a secure location and shows someone picked it up the following day. Tracking shows it was a large heavy box. Asked her to please recheck return address to see who sent her this little black thing and find out who picked up my package. No reply. Two days later, asked nicely again. No reply.
Yesterday I received the return which is not the thing in her hand or the pizza oven. It is a pair of off brand earbuds in factory sealed plastic with a shipping label on it with a CA return address and I sent the pizza oven to a TX address. It says on the package it is a huge heavy package on this little 4"x4"x2" box. She is no longer a registered user. I have never had such a situation. Should I ask eBay to intervene and I not refund?

OP1 year agoThank you, thank you! I didn't know she couldn't close her own account. I thought she was just trying to "skip town" after pulling this on me. I received a message from eBay saying I needed to refund by tomorrow or they step in and I get in trouble, so I have been worried about what action to take. Appreciate you taking the time to reply!

Mentor1 year ago@tlcfloral. You better contact eBay. You don't want them to force a refund or you get a defect and you don't get your seller's fees back.
If you have time please let me know how this turns out because it's such an unusual situation.

Mentor1 year agoThe OP has no exposure to get a Defect. The buyer, since they are NARU'd, can't file a case in Ebay.
@tlcfloral You have no responsibility to refund the buyer at this point. You simply don't know if they got your package or not. I would advise waiting.
As for issuing a refund on a buyer that is NARU'd. I believe you can. Ebay has the records of the initial payment, so there are records in which to process a refund on. I've personally not done this, but it is logical that you could. There has to be a way since if the buyer paid with a Credit Card, they could do a Chargeback Dispute.

Mentor1 year ago@tlcfloral I recommend contacting CS on social media. You shouldn't need to refund since eBay removed the member from the site. A member can not close their own account within 60 days of a purchase or sale.
I am not even sure if you CAN refund since they are no longer a registered user.
