New bullion/coin/paper money return policy
We’re making an update to eBay Money Back Guarantee coverage for Bullion, Coins and Paper Money.
What’s changing
Starting May 7th, coverage for items that don’t match the listing or arrive damaged will be more aligned to sellers’ policies for these categories:
- If a seller does not offer returns, you’ll need to request a return within 3 calendar days from the delivery date (previously up to 30 days).
- If a seller offers returns, coverage will apply within the seller’s stated return window.
The good - I can see why 30 days could be too much. Especially with how rapidly bullion prices can fluctuate and I am sure people do make up excuses to return items weeks later because of this. Good for bullion sellers.
The bad - You can hide under a rock all you want eBay but there are tons of counterfeit / misleading bullion/coin products on this site daily. I don't even report them anymore because your AI systems are not helpful at all. Three days is overly restrictive and may not give an inexperienced individual enough time to verify their item at a local coin store. You are only helping people take advantage of other people with this policy. Bad for buyers.
Potential compromise - give people 7 days.
