I think I'm reading this correctly - are sellers going to be required to use ebay shipping labels for some if not all listings? I don't always know what the exact shipping is going to be, I approximate and am usually pretty accurate but not always. If it's in the buyer's favor then I just suck it up as a cost of doing business. Or if I'm basically using a lower weight to have a lower shipping payment for the buyer but not quite give free shipping. I update the weight/dimensions as necessary when going to buy my label.
I know occasionally you get USPS credits or debits if a package's postage was a little off but it seems as though this would be more frequent if I can't edit anything prior to purchasing the label.
Or is this only after I have made updates if necessary, prior to actually buying the label?

eBay does provide the shipping label and require sellers to use it for certain items currently, that is not a change. It looks like from the information above that the wording about it has changed.
When a seller sells shoes that qualify for the eBay Authenticity Guarantee program eBay provides a pre-paid shipping label to send them to the authenticator. The seller can not choose or use any other option. Here is the details about the program, see the shoes section.

"I think I'm reading this correctly - are sellers going to be required to use ebay shipping labels for some if not all listings?"
After reading the Shipping section of the June 28, 2026, revisions to eBay's User Agreement,
the answer to your question, above, is yes.
Yes, eBay can require sellers to use eBay shipping labels for some listings.
Starting with the second sentence, it states, slightly paraphrased, that, for eligible listings, sellers may see a simplified listing flow where eBay will require sellers to list with eBay shipping and to ship the item using the shipping label eBay provides. The key words there are "eligible listings" and "may".
BTW, this Shipping section can be found in the User Agreement, Item 14, Additional Terms. Scroll through the Additional Terms to find these paragraphs entitled Shipping.
Here's the good news about this "revision" to eBay's User Agreement, effective June 28, 2026:
IT IS NOT NEW.
It is precisely, exactly, word for word, palabra por palabra, identically the same language as in the previous revision to eBay's User Agreement, which was effective February 20, 2026.
In the Announcement of this current version of eBay's User Agreement, when you click on User Agreement, the User Agreement opens up in a new window. There is a short paragraph at the beginning of it which states: "The previous amendment to this User Agreement was effective for all users on February 20, 2026."
Note the hyperlink in the words "previous amendment to this User Agreement." That means you can click anywhere within those six words and the February 20, 2026, version of the User Agreement will open up.
Which I did. I blocked and copied the Shipping section of both the February 20, 2026, and the June 28, 2026, revisions, and "pasted" them into a Word document. Each Shipping section fits perfectly onto standard 8 1/2" x 11" paper. I printed both pages, read through them, and they are identical.
The sky is still intact and should not falling any time soon.
And if it does, it won't be because of eBay's shipping policies.

Mentor4 months agoHi @frankbama41
There is no reason to have inaccurate weights on your item listings or shipping labels. You can purchase a digital postal scale (right here on eBay) for around $30. It will be the best investment (and deductible business expense) you can make as an eBay seller.

Well, I answered the question that should have been asked to solve the problem you're having. 😊
As for your questions...
eBay hasn't posted an announcement about requiring purchase of shipping labels through them, but it would be a great idea to cut down on some of the fraud perpetrated by dishonest sellers.
I'm a little unclear on what you're asking in your second question, but you can always make adjustments to package size and weight on the label creation page prior to purchase.

OP4 months agoThat's what I needed to know, thanks - I make updates post-purchase whenever I need to, often when I'm giving a break on shipping. With that question I was basically asking could I make changes prior to eBay sending me the label or if it was using the listing's info and not allowing me to change it beforehand.
These questions arose from the shipping section for the new agreement sent out today.
The "just answer" request comes from respondents telling people to do something, they're not doing it right, why would you do that, yada yada when the person asking may already have reasons for doing something a certain way. If they ask for suggestions about doing something differently, that's when it's fine.
Over the years it's frustrated my manager and myself with employees at another job disregarding instructions, complaining about this task or that one, questioning things when we've gone through whatever the task was thousands of times with prior employees. They don't seem to realize this isn't the first time we've done it and have decided this was the best way for us to do it, even if they don't know the reasons why.

It's hard to imagine how guessing at the package weight is justified, but if that's what you want to continue doing, you do you.
I bought a postal scale the first week I became a seller 22 years ago, and it's still going strong. I don't guess at package weights.
The mentors on this board are volunteering their time to help eBay buyers and sellers. If you don't find a response helpful, you are free to ignore it. Other sellers may appreciate the advice.

OP4 months agoFair enough but I've been on a lot of boards and eBay's seem to have the most why are you doing it that way (often worse than that, some downright mean) ? type responses. Probably the wider range of sellers rather than a specific group I guess.
