New account/buyer-Am I being scammed?
I recently sold an item and shipped it to the buyer using the address that the buyer provided. Buyer was a new account with no feedback. I paid for the shipping. Tracking showed that the item was delivered to the buyer, the funds were deposited into my account by Ebay, and then a few days later to my surprise the package was returned to me by USPS as undeliverable. I contacted the buyer and offered to reship if he provided a correct address and he paid for the new shipping label. Buyer now has provided an updated address, which includes an apartment number (only had street before), but the shipping name is also now different as well. Buyer wants me to pay for the shipping again. I have both the item and the funds yet somehow something doesn't feel right. Any advice on how to proceed?

Mentor8 months ago@wolfrun77 You do NOT pay for shipping again since the buyer was the one at fault. The sale is complete according to eBay.
Since this is a fairly expensive item I would look up the shipping cost to their location on Pirateship.com and then send them a PayPal invoice or let them know that they can send you the $ by other electronic payment method.
The other option is to refund the item price ONLY and relist the item and they can buy again putting in the correct address at checkout. You can also block the buyer to prevent them from buying again> https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/BuyerBlock?

Mentor8 months agoHi @wolfrun77
-First, when the package became undeliverable and was returned to you the Buyer lost their eBay Money Back Guarantee protection. You can refund them the item price but NOT the shipping they paid, that money was spent on the round trip shipment.
It would be better to simply Refund as described and Relist the item so the Buyer can purchase it again with a corrected address. Different names aren't that unusual, two people might be sharing the account and that too is not uncommon. They also could have purchased as a Guest, thus the (0) Feedback if that is what you are seeing on their ID.
-If you were to try and get paid for shipping the original item to an updated address then you would have to get paid outside eBay, meaning giving the Buyer personal information to get paid, this is not advisable.

OP8 months agoThe buyer has now opened an Item Not Received case. If I try to do a refund through the order Ebay won't let me since there is an open case. If I go through the case to do the refund it is defaulting to the full purchase amount and I can't enter a deduction for the shipping that I paid. Any suggestions?

Mentor8 months agoHi @wolfrun77
For an Item not received claim you upload the tracking number to the claim. Copy the tracking number from the order and paste it into the claim. You are protected since tracking shows the package was undeliverable or attempted but failed. The claim will be closed in your favor. The Buyer made a mistake by filing that type of a claim.

OP8 months agoThank you for your advice. Here's the weird thing though, the tracking shows the item as delivered to the buyer, but it was actually returned by me by USPS. I'm trying to do the right thing here by the buyer (a more dishonest seller would have just kept the money and the item since the tracking showed it as delivered).

As mentioned, upload the tracking number to the claim ... once the claim is closed you can move on to the other suggestions up thread. yes, it is good to do the right thing BUT keep in mind eBay just does things based on their policies and much of the site is automated.
