Negative feedback removal
Summary: bassslapper expressed frustration after receiving negative feedback on eBay despite providing a full refund to a buyer who claimed an item wasn't received. The issue arose from a lack of tracking scans for an eBay Standard Envelope. mudshark61369 advised that by allowing the buyer to file an item not received dispute, bassslapper could have avoided the negative feedback and suggested checking the tracking status through third-party tools. bassslapper mentioned their attempts at resolving the situation amicably and their concern over the buyer's accusations.
After 26 years as an ebay member I received my first negative feedback as a seller. Buyer never received the item, so I gave them a full refund and positive feedback as a show of good faith. In turn he gives me a negative rating, saying I did not send the item (a $2 baseball card via ebay USPS envelope) because the post office did not upload a scanned tracking number. I asked them to remove the negative feedback, and he basically called me a thief and a liar. Is there a way to escalate this to ebay to have them remove the negative feedback? I reported the buyer to ebay but nothing came of it. Thank you.

eBay Standard Envelopes are metered mail and do not get scanned, except at the aforementioned facilities, Your carrier or clerks can't stamp them either. Since you bought the postage through ebay you should have told the buyer to file an item not received dispute, then ebay should see the postage you bought through them and would have given you a 3 day time frame to respond, before they could step in. You should not issue a refund for an item outside of a dispute being filed, had they filed and received a refund, they would not have been able to leave the feedback.
In the future, you can also track ESE aka ESUS which are non standard tracking numbers, : Double-check the underlying ESUS number on third-party tools like Parcelsapp just in case a late machine scan populated off-platform.

OP2 weeks agoI appreciate the advice. Good knowledge to have that I will reference and apply as needed in the future, thank you. Is there any way to get the negative feedback removed? It is baseless and, frankly, slanderous.

The problem with ebay standard envelope (ESE) has been its tracking or the lack of it.
Did you buy your shipping "label" through ebay? If you did then you should see what tracking was posted in your seller hub. ESE mail does not get acceptance scans but may get scans as it passes through USPS automated facilities. The last scan is usually provided by a city's or regional hub, which sometimes gives an Out For delivery scan before reaching a buyer's P.O. but it is usually delivered 1-2 days later.
When the buyer contacted you did you check the tracking to see if it had reached a sorting facility near the buyer's zip code? If it had you could have asked them to file an item not received (INR) dispute ebay would accept the scan from that facility as proof of delivery if it got one within 2 days of the dispute being filed. If it did not get one you would have had to refund the buyer, which would then have prevented them from leaving a negative feedback on the 3rd day. By refunding on your own you opened yourself up to receiving the negative.
You can at least get your money back by opening the link below. There is a File a Claim button in the article.

FYI. responding to the buyer's feedback the way you did, probably did not help you if the buyer did receive the envelope after you refunded them. You could have asked them if they would consider changing the feedback if you sent them a Feedback Revision Request.

OP2 weeks agoI did purchase the envelope through ebay shipping. I placed the envelope along with several others in my outgoing mailbox. All envelopes are labeled "hand stamp, do not bend" and the postman is aware of what I am selling, as we have spoken about my volume of outgoing mail.
The tracking number never showed up on ebay, which leads me to believe it never got scanned so it was most likely lost in transit to the post office. Buyer accused me of not sending out the card, post-refund. Basically, I am just peeved that I received negative feedback after making things right and the buyer accused me of lying and stealing, which is what angers me the most.
