Negative feedback
I want to understand why negative feedback can be left to unwarranted claims and why is it not a condition that buyer has to work with seller before it's possible to leave negative

What was there to work with you on. The buyer was not happy with the packaging of his $70 coin. This is a good wake-up call to package your items better. There are many google links that will give you ideas.
The feedback reply you left didn't help your reputation any, and eBay won't even see it. A feedback reply is an opportunity for you to demonstrate to potential buyers how you have professionally worked with your buyer to resolve the problem (or at least issue an apology).

if customer service is of importance then you missed the point. I made a mistake, I couldn't find the coin. I apologized, instantly refunded the money. Then found the coin, mailed it to him free of charge and for that I deserve negative feedback.

Wrapped my item in a sheet of notebook paper and tossed it in a paper envelope.
In the recent negative you received, the buyer's complaint was about the packaging, not that you misplaced the coin. It was his opinion of the transaction.
You didn't mention that you were talking about a older transaction from back in November. It sounds like the buyer left the feedback after you cancelled the order and before you found and shipped the coin. At that time, you could have contacted the buyer to explain, and he might possibly been willing to change the feedback. But it's too late for that now.
