Need Advice: MacBook Logic Board Serial Number Mismatch After Repair Service
Summary: apvpsjca reported a serial number mismatch on their MacBook Pro M1 after sending it for a diagnostic service with an eBay repair provider. Upon declining the repair and having the laptop returned, they noticed the serial number on the MacBook did not match the one on the bottom case and their Apple ID. Despite contacting the original repair service with photographic evidence, the provider denied any wrongdoing. apvpsjca is seeking advice on how to escalate and resolve this issue.
I sent my MacBook Pro M1 16" to an eBay repair service for diagnostics.
After receiving the repair quote, I declined the repair and had the laptop returned.
Later, I had the laptop repaired by another technician. After the MacBook powered on, I discovered that the serial number reported by the MacBook does not match the serial number printed on the bottom case and does not match the serial number associated with my Apple ID/iCloud account.
I contacted the original repair provider and provided photos showing the serial number mismatch. They denied any issue and stated that they returned the same board they received.
I have:
• Photos of the serial number on the bottom case
• Screenshots from my Apple account
• Photos of the serial number currently reported by the MacBook
• Messages from the repair provider
Has anyone dealt with a similar situation involving an eBay repair service? What is the best way to escalate this issue and ensure it receives a proper review?
