Need Advice: Discovered item is fake after 1 year (Listing was "No Returns")
Body:
Hi everyone,
I am looking for some advice on a difficult situation regarding a purchase I made on eBay about a year ago.
Here are the details:
- Time of purchase: Approximately 1 year ago.
- Listing terms: The seller had a "No Returns" policy.
- The Issue: I have recently confirmed that the item is definitely a counterfeit/fake.
The Backstory:
When I first received the item, I didn't realize it was fake. It was an accessory (eyewear), and when I tried it on, it felt uncomfortable. At the time, I simply blamed myself, thinking the style just didn't suit my face shape or that I made a bad purchasing decision. Because the listing said "No Returns," and I thought the issue was just my personal preference/fit, I didn't pursue a return back then.
However, I recently had the item examined by a professional/compared it to a genuine version, and it is 100% a fake. The poor fit was actually due to poor manufacturing, not my face shape.
My Questions for the Community:
- Is there any recourse after this much time? I know the eBay Money Back Guarantee has expired (30 days), and PayPal is usually 180 days. Is there any other way to handle this?
- Does "No Returns" protect sellers of fakes? It feels wrong that a seller can hide behind a "No Returns" policy to sell counterfeit goods. If I had known it was fake immediately, I would have opened a case, but my lack of experience with this brand meant I didn't catch it until now.
- How do I report this seller? Even if I cannot get my money back (which I understand might be impossible now), I still want to report this seller to protect future buyers. They should not be allowed to continue selling fakes.
I have attached photos of the item showing the discrepancies and a screenshot of my original order details below.

Any advice on how to proceed or how to properly report this would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Mentor9 months agoThere is nothing you can do on either Ebay or Paypal since this happened a year ago.
In the future, if you receive something not as described (like fake or inauthentic), you have 30 days to file a Return Request through Ebay regardless of the seller's "no returns". Ebay's 30 day Money Back Guarantee override's the sellers no returns policy.
