Mystery transaction
On the bank statement we have a debit for a purchase done via ebay. We did not use ebay for it, possibly the vendor was selling via ebay even if we have paid by credit card at the time and were not aware of ebay involvement. We want to find out who the vendor is or what the item is.

Mentor2 years agoSellers have no idea how their buyers pay and do not have access to credit cards, as they are paid through a third party, so it is not a seller using your card. When you called your bank did you ask for more information on the transaction? Sometimes they can give more details that could give you a clue as to what it is.

If the transaction is not in your purchase history, eBay can not give you any information about it.
You need to dispute the charge with your bank.

OP2 years agoThe bank says dispute with ebay. We do not want to dispute anything, just want to find out what it is all about. Only ebay can tell us who charged and for what. Ebay charged our account so ebay should respond. Where can we go from here?

You can try asking via social media, but I suspect they will not be able to give you any information. Your bank is really the one that has to file the dispute. Post a private message on www.facebook.com/ebay or www.twitter.com/ebay
If your bank really won't help you, I would suggest opening a paypal account and paying through them, to add another layer of protection.

Thank you for your suggestions, we will try to get somewhere through the bank. I guess creating a dispute is the only way.
We did not make any payments via ebay, these were some merchants that did it on our behalf and we cannot find out who and for what. all we have is the amount and some numerical codes attached to them.
The PayPal approach for protection would be good some years ago but once they started considering freezing accounts etc. in case of user's unacceptable (to PayPal) political views, I put them firmly on my black list. I had an account with the buggers but have closed it. I will not accept tyrants.
