Mysterious "New Shipment" of items that were returned a month ago
Summary: tmatthew23 describes a perplexing situation where they received an unexpected email from eBay about a "New Estimated Delivery Date" for an item that was returned and refunded a month ago. Although the original transaction was closed, the USPS indicated a delivery, but tmatthew23 did not receive the package, and their doorbell camera didn't record any delivery. They are not accusing the seller but are considering contacting USPS to verify the delivery scan before taking further action. tmatthew23 is seeking advice on similar experiences.
Hello -- I'm hoping someone can help explain a strange situation with an order that was delivered, returned and refunded about a month ago. I purchased two items (separate listing) from same seller and they were combined into one order and shipped together. I determined the items were counterfeit and returned them, seller accepted return and issued the refund. Case close on Aug 11.
Today, I unexpectedly received an eBay email saying one of the items has a "New Estimated Delivery Date" of today. The email referenced the USPS tracking # from the seller's original shipment back in August. I then get my daily USPS mail delivery notification email showing that I have one package arriving today, but the tracking number doesn't match the one in the email from eBay. When I checked the old order details, eBay now shows “Your item has 3 shipments” for both items. -- the original, my return and this new shipment with a tracking number that matches the one in my USPS notification email.
The tracking number for this new “shipment” was actually created on Aug. 4 at 11:36 AM in New York, three minutes before the label for the package the seller actually mailed to me was created at 11:39 AM. The original shipment was dropped of at the post office that same day in New York. There is no activity on the other label from the time it was created on Aug. 4 until it was "Accepted at USPS Facility - Philadelphia Distribution Center" three days ago. From there it tracks the package through delivery to my town were it was supposedly "Delivered, Front Door/Porch."
This is where it starts to get even stranger -- I never received the package, but I got a text confirmation from USPS that it was delivered. My doorbell camera, which is set to record when human motion is detected (and it's working properly) did not capture any video of anyone coming to my door at the time it says it was delivered.
I'm not trying to open an Item Not Received claim—the original transaction is over, the counterfeit items were returned, and I've already been fully refunded. There has been no communication with seller since, and I'm also not accusing the seller of doing anything improper, but I am a little hesitant to reach out to him first. For now I'm planning to ask USPS whether they can verify the delivery scan/location before doing anything else.
Has anyone encountered something like this before?
Thanks in advance!

Mentor1 month ago@tmatthew23 Hard to tell what shenanigans the seller is trying to pull OR if this was a postal error. Since you have already been refunded I would not worry about it.
