Thanks for your help. Spoke to Ebay, who had no explanation but obviously helpful as ever. Completely stumped. Defaulted to .com even when .co.uk specifically recalled continually. No explanation for this. Clearly some glitch somewhere. Thanks though!
One bit of advice: You can add https://www.ebay.co.uk/ to your "favorites" or "bookmarks" in your internet browser so that you can choose that to go to the proper website every time.
