My opened case on hold
Summary: outback708 experiences issues with a seller on eBay, who initially agreed to reimburse shipping charges but has not done so. Despite an item being marked as shipped earlier, it was only sent on a later date, prompting outback708 to open a case. The case is now on hold, and they are considering returning the item while seeking advice on claiming the agreed shipping refund. mam98031 advises that eBay likely extended the case due to recent activity and cautions against filing a claim outside eBay as it might complicate the case. They suggest keeping all communications within eBay.
I purchased an item withe the agreement seller would reimburse the shipping charges.I purchased the item on August 31st.Seller claimed to ship item sept.3rd with no tracking. And I never got my agreed shipping refund.I opened a case “ item not received want refund”.Seller then shipped item on sept 13th with tracking.I informed eBay that I want a refund.Sept 16 is the day(today) I can ask eBay to step in.Now they put my case on hold until September 26th.I plan to ship the item back. However should I decide to keep the item how do I get my shipping charges that the seller owes me?My payment to seller is on hold.Every contact with the seller I did through eBay.

MentorSep 16, 2026 at 8:32 PMIf the listing you purchased from said the Buyer pays shipping and gave an amount for that shipping, the seller is not responsible to refund you the shipping charge. The purchase agreement is as the listing you purchased from states. I am however very sorry that you ran into a seller that mislead you. That is problematic and I hope you Report the Seller for this.
Your INR [item not received] case was likely put on hold because there was movement on the tracking within the last 7 days. That is typically what will cause them to extend the time on the INR. Ebay will NOT force the seller to refund you right now, you will have to wait to see if the package continues to move and eventually get delivered. However if the package gets stuck for a few days, you will likely see the ability to Ask Ebay to Step in reappear on your INR claim.
What do you mean by "My payment to seller is on hold."?? Did you go and file a claim with your Credit card company too? If you did, then it is likely going to create problems for you as a buyer on Ebay as they frown upon double dipping like that.
You are wise to keep all your communication with the seller inside of Ebay.

OPSep 16, 2026 at 10:37 PMI paid for the item and seller informed me on sept 14th her funds are on hold by eBay.Since I paid on august 31st and I got a notice from eBay item shipped with no tracking number. When I opened a did not receive want a refund it seems seller admitted they really never shipped the item. They had 3 business days to respond and actually shipped the item on the 3rd business day.Now eBay says my case is on hold until September 26th.Can I return the item unopened for a refund?

Mentor3 weeks ago@outback708 For now I recommend waiting for this case to work itself out. I understand that is not the answer you are looking for but I think that the most import thing is that you receive a refund.
It sounds like you have a new seller that doesn't understand how eBay works. New seller funds are held until AFTER tracking shows delivery.
They will not like how refunds work either.... the refund comes from the sellers back up payment method for selling costs ( checking account or credit card) then they have to wait for the buyers refund to reach their account before the buyers payment is released to the sellers account.
You can return an item as not as described if it arrives later than the last estimated delivery date as the estimated delivery date is part of the description, especially if a seller is not providing any shipping information.
select doesn't match description for the return reason.
