You started the bidding at $12.50 and only received one bid. That's why it sold for $12.50.
You may have included a Buy It Now (BIN) option for $50 ... but that has no effect on the auction. Only the first bidder had the opportunity to use the BIN ... since it goes away as soon as the first bid is placed.
You are confusing the BIN with a 'Reserve' ... which does fix the lowest amount of the winning bid. Reserves are a waste of money, however. It is better to start the bidding at the lowest amount you're willing to accept for the item.
