Multiple sellers using Amazon, is this becoming standard procedure?
In March '25 , I received an item I purchased on ebay in an Amazon box with a ticket showing it was purchased from Amazon. Now in the last 3 weeks, two more sellers sent items in Amazon packaging to me, one came today from an Amazon driver. I have never had this happen since I started buying on e-bay in the late 90's. Is this becoming common place? I am annoyed since I specifically came to buy at e-bay to avoid purchases from Amazon. Anyone have any clue as to why this is happening?

According to Ebay,
Drop shipping, where the seller fulfills orders directly from a wholesale supplier, is allowed on eBay.
However, listing an item on eBay and then purchasing the item from another retailer or marketplace that ships directly to the customer is not allowed on eBay.

OP1 year agoThis seems odd to me, I thought ebay was it's own entity. So there is no way to tell when you look at an item whether they will ship it to you from Amazon?

Ebay is a website that sellers use to list their items for sale. The item could be shipped from anywhere.

Mentor1 year agoIt may not be possible to always identify in advance those users who drop ship, but it is possible to identify some common characteristics of illicit retail drop shippers or other under-performing sellers, and thus avoid the worst of them.
Often they can be spotted by a combination of low feedback number, free shipping of heavy items where that makes no sense, use of stock photos, high handling time (not necessarily if they are using Amazon, though), poor feedback received with complaints of delays and wrong items or out of stock cancellations, very odd item selection and/or quantities like items were chosen at random from a catalog, canned item descriptions scraped from another site, differences between registration location and item location (or vague item location -- like "US, United States"), or inability to answer even basic questions about the items being sold.

OP1 year agoThanks, that information is useful. It still is a big disappointment to find out that I cannot get away from Amazon even here. It will take some vigilance on my part to try to figure out who to buy from.

With a little practice, it is possible to identify sellers that are most likely or least likely to deliver something from Amazon or from another retail site. There are some sellers in the middle that are harder to classify one way or the other, but you should be able to avoid buying from Amazon if you stick to sellers that do not appear to be using stock images, or sellers that are selling single-quantity items.
