Multiple sellers having 'inventory' or 'shipping' issues and asking the buyer to cancel.
Summary: kate_elliott has experienced multiple cancellations from sellers on eBay, citing inventory issues, which led to concerns about their buyer rating and account status. They previously faced issues with their PayPal account being flagged and eventually banned, possibly related to these transactions. disneyshopper advised that sellers should file a cancellation for being 'Out of Stock' to avoid defects on their accounts, rather than asking the buyer to initiate the cancellation.
Hi,
I've been on ebay for a long time - and recently I've had multiple purchases from sellers with good histories / ratings where I've got an email a day or two after purchase claiming they had an inventory problem, or claiming that the item was damaged in storage, and that they are now unable to fulfill the order.
They then go on to ask that I cancel the order with "won't arrive in time."
I'm starting to worry that this may, long term, have an impact on my rating as a buyer / or on the automated systems that monitor account behavior. I'm particularly sensitive about this because a month or two ago I lost my paypal account immediately after several of these transactions - my paypal account was then flagged as having high risk behavior (and that was the only change to a ~decade of mixed recurring and intermittent transactions) before being banned.
So, what should I do as a buyer when this keeps happening?
And is it reasonable to be concerned about the impact on my account?
Thanks in advance

Mentor1 month agoYou do not have to ask cancel, as already posted, this is a ploy by the seller to avoid penalties. If he still cancels selecting you asked to cancel you can report the seller who will be penalized for doing this.

Mentor1 month agoThe sellers should file a cancellation for Out of Stock. That will record a defect on their accounts, which is why they want you to file a cancellation so they will not get a defect.
