I have seen a recent item for bid and the bid stats offer only 1 bidder under a 'private undisclosed' name.
Is this a normal practice for a single bidder to continually up bid an item - 1) to try and guarantee a win 2) an effort to intentionally up the item bid price ( possibly by seller - associate ? ) 3) what is the purpose of having one's bid stats/ name hidden 4) is this a usual practice; if so for what purpose ?
Just asking due to a short time on bidding experience - looking to learn

Mentor4 months agoWay back when, ebay had an option for listing an item as a private listing to allow the buyers to not reveal their user IDs for privacy if the seller was selling a medical device, or private hygiene item, or any item they thought the general public shouldn't know about.
Eventually, ebay decided to mask the user IDs for privacy, but the private listing option stayed. A buyer might be increasing his/her bid a few pennies at a time to try and "scare" other bidders from bidding.
