Money talks, apparently - to benefit only eBay
I have reported a seller constantly to eBay for not only very obvious price-gouging, but also overall suspicious activity with many red flags.
Time and time again, eBay chose not to do anything about it and will not get back to me after they said they'll investigate it further.
They claim they cannot share results with me because it invades the privacy of everyone involved. I say **bleep**
I've been with eBay since 1999 and have seen many ups and downs along the way; though the last few years (especially when they partied ways with PayPal - again) have really been horrible.
I buy once in a while but I cannot make a decent amount of money anymore (I'm an occasional seller) because of the fees lately. In fact, the fees for about a dozen items I sold came out to eBay taking all the funds the buyer paid for shipping and the took an average of 15% on top of that. Thus, I have to eat the cost of shipping for what funds are remaining. The payout system is poky at times as well. I'm not able to access the shipping discounters out there consistently - retail is what I have to go by more often than not. Usually I've been left after all is said and done is about half of what I sold the item for in the first place.
I've other gripes but to reiterate; eBay seems to not care as much as they used to as in the past.
That's a shame!

Mentor2 years agoPrice gouging only applies to items deemed critical during a state or national declared emergency. Otherwise, it is a free market, and sellers can charge whatever they want to charge.
I only see items with free shipping in your listings, so I can't offer any opinion there, other than to say if you use calculated shipping and accurately enter the weight and dimensions, the buyer will be charged the exact amount it will cost you to ship (if you charge the buyer only your discounted rates).
Or, you can charge the buyer the retail rate, and the discount, which eBay applies automatically when you buy your label here, will cover the fees on the shipping, plus a bit more. Retail is the default charge to the buyer - you have to change the settings to charge them your discounted rate.
If you are spending 50% of your selling price on shipping plus fees, you should either start charging for shipping, or try raising your prices.
