Money Back Guarantee by eBay
I am reaching out to Buyers of eBay who may have experienced the same thing I have with eBay's Money Back Guarantee Policy. I did not know nor does the policy state that if a buyer contacts their financial institution about a purchase made on eBay that eBay will not honor their Money Back Guarantee and a buyer will be denied any assistance and appeal. I have proof to provide eBay the charge was placed back on to my credit card and that the seller did not respond and yet eBay still refused to help me and instructed me to go back to my financial institution for assistance on the item I purchased that was not functional. My financial institution is not responsible for the fact that this item does not work as it was a legitimate charge. eBay has washed their hands of it and absolutely refuse to help me. After filing a report on the seller, eBay has still not answered the report after several weeks. I have looked everywhere on eBay's website for a contact phone number to speak with a customer service representative and can't find anything. I had an online chat with a representative who said she wished that she could help me but can't. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get assistance with this matter? I am stuck with a $400 non-functional dishwasher purchased from a dishonest seller on eBay.

Mentor2 years agoHello laurgar_92,
In reading eBay's 30-day Money Back Guarantee policy on their site, it states that Buyers cannot file duplicate claims. That portion of the policy states:
"A buyer may not seek resolution for the same transaction under more than one buyer protection program. eBay may close a buyer's eBay Money Back Guarantee case if the buyer files a chargeback or buyer protection claim for the same transaction with their payment provider (such as a credit card issuer or payment service provider), regardless of whether the chargeback or buyer protection claim is for the full or partial amount of the transaction."
By contacting their financial institution first, the Buyer would not be able to also file a claim through the Money Back Guarantee.

OP2 years agoThank you for the Money Back Guarantee policy information as I searched and did not see anything on the website stating their policy about a buyer seeking resolution for the same transaction. I believe their policy should consider the circumstance and if the Seller refuses to resolve the issue then eBay needs to at least address the Seller for not following their policy. eBay definitely stuck to their policy with me as the Buyer and yet allowed the Seller to get away with selling me a non-operable product. I was basically robbed by an eBay Seller and eBay is doing nothing about it. I contacted the Seller several times, gave him a bad review and reported the Seller to eBay and never received a response from eBay. They acknowledged the initial report and nothing back after two months. Unfortunately, eBay's policy must also allow Seller's to get away with falsely selling a product on eBay and not having any responsibility to respond to the buyer to resolve the issue. At this point, I've been robbed and have no choice but to contact the BBB to file a complaint with eBay and this Seller.
