Missing package help (I'm the seller).
Another first for me... I mailed a package on 6/30, same day buyer paid, USPS with tracking #. Was supposed to be delivered by 7/5. Buyer messaged me on 7/15 saying "when can I expect to get my item?". I checked and the last update on the tracking number was 7/5. It said "out for delivery" but the next one said "Alert - we will deliver soon." I opened a Missing Mail Search Request on 7/15 and now the tracking page just says that the search request was opened. There have been no updates and I'm honestly not convinced USPS is doing anything at all.
I feel bad for the buyer. Even though this isn't my fault, it's obviously not his, either - so as a gesture of goodwill I refunded his shipping on the day he messaged me pending the outcome. It's not an expensive item ($12.00) but I think I should be able to get a refund from USPS for the cost of the item and what we paid to ship it. I've never initiated a request for refund on an eBay shipping label. Can someone please guide me through the process and (hopefully) give me the link to use? Thanks.

Mentor1 year agoYou cannot ask for a refund of the shipping label since the USPS will not approve it since the package entered the mailing system. If the USPS declares the package lost then you can get an insurance payout from them which will include the shipping charge.

OP1 year agoI don't want a refund of the shipping label. I want a refund for what I paid to ship the package as well as the value of the contents. That only seems fair, since I did not receive the service I paid for.
How long do I have to wait for USPS to declare the package lost? And what is the process to file a claim for an eBay package?
