Missing item finally delivered after refund issued.
Buyer contacted seller that his missing item arrived after 3 months. He was refunded and now is asking how to pay for the item?

Mentor5 months agoFirst question is did you purchase the shipping label through the eBay shipping center? If so, did the buyer open an "Item not received" case? If the buyer opened the case did you refund on your own without eBay forcing a refund?
If the answers to the above are all yes then eBay should refund you for the refund you made to the buyer once tracking shows the item as delivered. My only concern is the three months that passed before delivery. The USPS does not usually keep tracking information available for that amount of time. If you can see the tracking now showing delivered you may need to contact customer service and ask them to manually check the tracking and pay you back. If you no longer see the tracking information show delivery then you will need to find a way for the buyer to repay you. Usually this can be through a PayPal invoice or something like Venmo.

Mentor5 months ago@plantnanny That's awesome that you have an honest buyer.
They can send you the $ through an electronic payment method such as PayPal or Venmo. This is not considered an offsite sale as the transaction already took place.
It might be tricky exchanging contact info so long after a sale though. Check your order details to see if you still have the buyers phone number.
OR they can snail mail you a check to the return address on the label.

OP5 months agoThanks so much for quick and informative answer. I feel comfortable now, completing this transaction with the buyer.
I have another question, since I’m fairly new to eBay and this hasn’t come up previously. When eBay did the refund to the buyer, did the funds actually come from me?
Thanks again for your help.

Mentor5 months ago@plantnanny. Yes the refund came from you since you are the seller. eBay is just a platform that sells adspace, sellers are always responsible for the transaction.

OP5 months agoThank you again for the information. I felt kind of stupid asking that, but the way eBay had phrased their response that “they would take care of the refund “, led me to wonder. I appreciate your quick help.

Mentor5 months ago@plantnanny. Never let eBay take care of a refund. If you don't refund willingly before eBay steps in on case then you get a defect.
The only time eBay refunds a buyer out of their pocket is if you shipped with the eBay International Shipping Program.
You may be eligible for seller protection as my fellow Mentor @jacbarcollectibles
But I think it might be too late.

OP5 months agoI filed a missing item report and followed eBay’s instructions. They sent me the following:
“We've reviewed your case and have decided to issue the buyer a refund of $(amount pd) without any impact to you.
This case is now closed. You are not required to reimburse the buyer or eBay, and this case will not be counted in your seller performance evaluation.”
So it appeared to me that everything was taken care of, and I didn’t get a defect against my account.

Mentor5 months ago@plantnanny. That's great. The seller protection for item not received cases is fairly new. Glad eBay took care of you.
You didn't get a defect since eBay took care of the refund.
